It is with deep sadness that we have learned that the old timer and renown Dx-er  Jim Smith, VK9NS passed away peacefully on Norfolk Island at 15:40 local time on 10 February 2009 after a short illness.

Jim Smith had a great contribution in Bangladesh to convinced our Govt. to reopen the Amateur Radio In Bangladesh. He came Bangladesh several time and met to Govt. Officials and Amateur Radio Entrusts. He operate from here using the call sign “ S21U” and “S21ZA”.

S21DX Islands On The Air & World Lighthouse On The Air

 

 Finally two OM & one YL operator (S21RC, S21AM & S21JS) and one of our Ham interested friend managed to join the IOTA AS-127. We have reached St. Martin’s Island on 16th Afternoon; the arrival was delayed due to heavy fog on the road and along the river.

Many thanks for the information about the forthcoming expedition to St Martin's Island, AS-127. The S2 prefix is all too rare on the bands and it is very pleasing to see that the IOTA expedition will be undertaken by local operators.

 Live camera image transmitted from the “International Space Station (ISS)” is captured by Bangladeshi Amateur Radio Operator Fazlay Rabby, callsign S21RC for the very first time in the country.

 

 

The transmission was received on 18 October at 4:18 PM local time when the ISS was flying its 56,793 number orbit, 1700KM away from Dhaka and at a height of 352KM from the ground.

The South East Asia Amateur Radio Network (SEANET) was established in 1964 on 20m (14.320 MHz plus or minus QRM).

The objective of this Net is to promote international understanding and fellowship among hams and to relay emergency, medical, urgent or priority traffic.

This on-the-air meeting which has taken place without fail daily at 1200 UTC has strengthened unity and co-operation among Hams around the world, especially those within the region.
